Beck is a native of Lake Villa, Illinois, a small suburb near the Wisconsin border, with strong family roots in the Morton Grove and Skokie area. Michigan also holds a special place in her heart, as she earned her B.A. at Michigan State University, where she studied Arts and Humanities as well as Anthropology.
Beck's passion for teaching and youth work began during a study abroad trip to Mali, in West Africa, where she used arts and active learning methods to teach basic English to elementary and middle school students. Since then, Beck has had a variety of jobs and internships in informal education, primarily in museums. Most recently, she spent a year teaching workshops and facilitating learning through play at Impression 5 Science Center in Lansing, MI.
Outside of work, Beck's other passions include food, intersectional feminism, music and theater, and her dog, a chihuahua named Clove.
