SUCCESS STORY OF A FASHION DESIGNER

I am Tsering Dolma, a Fashion Designer. I am currently working in the Export House division of Fair Lady, Delhi. We deal in Haute Couture garments.

“What do you want to be when you grow up?”
Fashion designer” was my reply to my Class 7 ma’am, and I believed it.

Like most kids, I had a very normal childhood. I loved playing, dancing and hated doing homework. That might make you form a naughty impression of me. Yeah, I was naughty but at the same time, I was very much passionate about one thing. You can say my only hobby: sketching. I used to sit outside home no. 9 (Upper TCV, Dharamsala) and sketch, sketch and just sketch. I sketched all those models adorned in beautiful dresses and many a time even gave the sketches a life by making the same dresses for my Barbie dolls. As I grew up, I became more and more determined to fulfill my dream. I started sending letters and sketches to various fashion institutes in India. Because whatever information I got from school sources was never enough for me. It only aroused my desire to learn about fashion designing all the more. And I didn’t have the patience to wait for someone to tell me.

I always knew that I wanted to pursue a degree course in fashion designing in one of the best fashion institutes. I couldn’t clear my first entrance test, yes definitely, I felt sad but I was not ready to give up my dream so soon. So, I gave it a second shot and I was selected! I got into Pearl Academy of Fashion, Delhi, one of the best institutes for fashion designing in India. However, I was struck with another problem. I had no clue how I was going to pay the enormous fees.

That was the moment in my life when I recognised the presence of God. I believe that if you are really determined, hardworking, have faith, belief in yourself and your abilities, then there could be a speed breaker but not stop signs on your path to your goals. I think it was God in the human form who helped me out with my financial problems. As the saying goes, ‘God helps those who help themselves’. How true! My school sponsor helped me out with the fees. After 3½ yrs of hard work, perseverance and determination, today here I am as a Fashion Designer.

I thank God, my sponsor and all my teachers and friends who helped me when I was struggling and I know I still have a long way to go from here…………………………….

Keep dreaming and you will be there soon.

Don’t Wait for the future; make yourself a future.
