Martin began his career in social services as Regional Business Manager at Children’s Home + Aid in Chicago. In that role he served as liaison to program staff for budgeting, purchasing and cost reporting while managing an $18M budget. In this capacity he also served as co-chair of the Agency Quality Council.
From there Martin joined Maine Center in Park Ridge, IL, a community based mental health center, as Finance Director. He managed all facets of the Finance Department and represented the agency at community functions. His favorite community function was the annual Maine Township Government Day. On this occasion students from Maine Township High Schools were mentored by Martin about his agency and prepared a mock proposal for funding to the Maine Township Board for consideration. Martin served in this capacity at Maine Center for 16 years.
Martin joined Unity Parenting and Counseling in 2016 as Chief Financial Officer. In this role he oversaw all finance and accounting functions including budgeting, presentation of financial statements, cost reporting to Federal, State, local government and private funders, vendor negotiations, year-end audit and tax preparation, billing, payroll upkeep of physical plant and buildings, as well as working on grant application preparation.
Martin is particularly gratified to work in an environment where Chicagoland’s most vulnerable youth are served by dedicated, gifted program staff. He received his Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in French from Loyola University of Chicago in 1991 and a Masters of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Loyola as well in 1998. Martin and his wife, Michelle, are avid National Park visitors and recently bought a pop-up camper so that Michelle no longer has to sleep on the ground during their adventures!
