Help Bring Ideas to Life: The Lewis-Sebring MakerSpace Wish List

Published: October 16, 2026

At Y.O.U., curiosity can spark something incredible. Through hands-on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) learning, the Lewis-Sebring MakerSpace gives young people opportunities to experiment, solve problems, and turn their ideas into reality.

Led by STEM educator and MakerSpace Program Manager Morgan Steorra, the MakerSpace encourages youth to explore new technologies, embrace creativity, and discover their potential as designers, builders, and innovators. With the right tools and a supportive environment, young people can build confidence, develop new skills, and begin to see possibilities they may never have imagined.

Now, Y.O.U. is inviting the community to help make those opportunities possible by supporting the Lewis-Sebring MakerSpace wish list.

Meet Morgan Steorra: Making STEM Accessible

With more than a decade of experience exploring technology, creativity, and community-based education, Morgan joined Y.O.U. in 2024. She develops and facilitates STEAM programming that encourages young people to learn by making, experimenting, and collaborating.

As an Evanston resident, Morgan is passionate about creating welcoming, accessible learning experiences for young people in her own community. For her, the greatest reward is watching students surprise themselves with what they can accomplish.

“It’s about giving young people the tools, confidence, and space to turn their ideas into something real—to take risks and see their visions and possibilities become more concrete,” Morgan explains.

Her ultimate goal is to help young people expand how they see themselves and recognize that STEM is for them, too.

Help Equip the Next Generation of Innovators

The Lewis-Sebring MakerSpace relies on community generosity to provide the equipment and materials young people need to explore their interests and bring their ideas to life. Donations toward the wish list will help Y.O.U. maintain and expand opportunities for hands-on learning.

Some of the MakerSpace’s priority needs include:

  • 3D printers: Two FDM printers at approximately $800 each and one resin printer costing $400–$750.
  • Computers: Nine MacBooks at approximately $1,200 each and one iMac to support creative design and technology projects.
  • LEGO SPIKE robotics kits: Seven kits at approximately $400 each to encourage engineering, coding, and problem-solving.
  • Glowforge laser cutter: One machine estimated at $7,000–$9,000 to expand creative fabrication opportunities.
  • Sewing machines: Fourteen new machines at approximately $250 each to support textile-based projects and creative exploration.

The full wish list also includes a replacement Carvey CNC machine, along with additional details about equipment needs, estimated costs, and fundraising goals.
